Don Vogl

About the Artist

Donald G. Vogl is a prolific and flexible artist. Many of his recent works are large abstract paintings in acrylics and oils, and plein air landscape paintings in watercolors and pastels.

Desert MonumentHe also creates portraits, figures and still lifes, and uses a variety of media including sculpture, collage, assemblage, and spray paint.

Don’s diverse, direct, improvisational, and at times whimsical style matches his extroverted, convention-breaking, positive personality. He strives for works that appear effortless, clean and bright, light and spontaneous, open and unconstrained.

His semi-abstract works show influences from abstract expressionism and often contain figures, birds, other animals, clouds, monuments, bold shapes and bright colors.

Summer PortraitDon taught printmaking, design and watercolor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana for over 30 years.

Don has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, and has visited Mexico, Morocco and Namibia. He enjoys the outdoors, art museums and galleries wherever he goes.

Don moved to Fort Collins in 2003, partly to be closer to the large open spaces and monumental natural formations of the American West. His wife and most of his children and grandchildren also live in Fort Collins.
